Cupping is an old traditional form of treatment where the warmth of the sauna is essential.
Th expression “removing the bad blood” holds up because venous blood containing carbon dioxide is removed in cupping. As a result, the bone marrow is activated to producing blood cells and the metabolism is invigorated. And one is refreshed.
Blood is circulating more effectively which affects the whole being accordingly. The phenomenon is similar to what happens when branches a cut off a tree: the growth is accelerated.
When to cup?
Traditionally cupping is done in spring and autumn after a period of hard work. The phases of the moon also affect the time suitable for cupping.
The best times are around the spring and autumnal equinox, i.e. in March and September.
Nowadays cupping can be done with a three months’ interval depending on the customer’s physical condition and needs.
The normal time between cuppings is about six months.
I treat my cupping customers a short whole body whisking, juice and small snacks. Washing detergents and a towel are also included.
It is highly recommendable to have a whole body massage or bone setting a day or two before cupping in order to get the toxic substances in the body to set off.
Cupping is known to relieve the following ailments among others:
Hight blood pressure and haemoglobin
Tensions and pain of the neck-shoulder region
Headaches and migraine
Fibromyalgia and rheumatic diseases
Cold, aching and restless legs
Asthma (depending on the medication)
Gouty arthritis
Menstrual pains
Acne, rashes, psoriasis
Metabolic disorders
Men’s prostatic problems
Women’s menopause problems
Mental disorders
Coronary artery disease (only with doctor’s approval)
When is cupping not recommended?
If you are diagnosed with any of the following
Diabetes (connective tissues are brittle and blood veins weak)
Heart problems (cupping would cause too much strain)
Regular use of anticoagulants (blood does not congeal); Ok if the doctor gives permission to skip medication for a couple of days before cupping. Hence not a total hindrance but the treating doctor should be consulted.
Haemophilia
Cancer (three years after recovery, with the doctor’s approval)
Weak general condition (permission form a doctor)
Cortisone medication or strong pain killers (vein walls do not close normally which results in bruises)
Less than three months from blood donation
During the silly season i.e. from July full moon to August full moon.
According to traditional wisdom, bacteria and other microbes grow faster during the silly season, the warmest months of the summer, than during cooler weather. The health risks are increased also after the hot season with the more often occurring rains. Then the surface waters wash from the soil, outhouses and compost heaps to wells and other water supplies wastewater containing pathogens.
Earlier, diseases common in late summer were different salmonellae, dysentery and polio. These illnesses were further spread by flies.
